Character Name: Kaeya Alberich
Character Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon Point: Patch 3.5
Age: 22
Crime: Perjury. Kaeya is Sir Liar McLiarson and this is absolutely a crime he is actually guilty of. Heโs a convincing liar in canon, so Iโd like to see what happens when heโs outed from the very start as someone who lies as naturally as they breathe. Manipulative as he is, knowing from the outset that few will take what he says at face value would push him in ways he isnโt pushed in canon.
Background: Here.
Personality: Kaeya carries himself as a sharp-witted, charismatic knight with a pulse on the goings on within his city of Mondstadt. The townsfolk know him to be exactly what he bills himself as, even being issued the prestigious title of โMondstadtโs Most Eligible Bachelorโ by the cityโs elderly women, who think of him as charming and eccentric. He has a playful, if slightly cruel side, at one point convincing a group of children that lanterns glow because they house the imprisoned souls of fireflies until a nun corrected this misinformation. As far as appearances go, he is certainly sharp, charismatic, and eccentric, but those who know Kaeya more intimately donโt all share this sentiment.
Those who haunt the bars Kaeya frequents regard him as nosy, and they arenโt wrong. Kaeyaโs friendly fraternizing is a means to gather useful information that serves him in his capacity as a knight but also slakes his personal curiosity, keeping notes on shady characters within the walls of Mondstadt and just beyond. Heโs gone as far as to write a profile on each of them, remarking in the margins of his notes that โthings would get too boringโ otherwise. When asked about these notes, he excuses them as nothing more than drunken scribbles, painting himself as harmless in a way that some find suspicious.
While most dismiss him as a harmless pest who spends far too much time drinking at the bars, the more keen-eyed recognize that Kaeya uses his sharp tongue to whittle valuable information out of anyone he seeks it from. He eagerly lies to gather the information heโs after, providing one person with a convincing fib while crafting an entirely different tale for another, and those who know him best are aware of his manipulative nature.
Some of his fellow knights regard Kaeya as a man with a sadistic streak due to his habit of pushing both his enemies and subordinates into treacherous situations that test their mettle and limitations alike. Despite this, his position as one of the Knights of Favoniusโ ten captains speaks to his capability as a leader and the trust his fellow knights place in him. While some among the Knights acknowledge his smooth talking and questionable behavior, Kaeya maintains his relationships carefully to uphold the veneer of an offbeat but trustworthy man.
Diluc Ragnvindr, a former knight who stood on equal footing with Kaeya as his adopted brother, knows Kaeya best. Abandoned on the steps of the Ragnvindr estate, Dilucโs father took Kaeya in and raised him alongside his son. The two quickly grew inseparable, both pursuing the path of knighthood with Kaeya trailing right behind in his brotherโs shadow, but Diluc would divert from this path when their father was unexpectedly killed.
While his fatherโs murder forever changed Dilucโs life, it changed the trajectory of Kaeyaโs as well. Stricken with grief and guilt, Kaeya elected to come clean and admit the truth of his origins to Diluc on the eve of their fatherโs death. He hadnโt been found by chance on his doorstep, but implanted in Mondstadt as a spy from Khaenriโah, an ancient land outside of the control of the gods. His confession drove a wedge between the two, and through this one act of honesty, Kaeya lost both of the people he had come to love.
The two drew their blades and fought, with Kaeya considering this moment to be his punishment for the life of lies he had been living. After facing Diluc as his true, unvarnished self and suffering the consequences, Kaeya received his Vision and regarded this โgiftโ from the gods as proof of his burden: that he must live the remainder of his life under a veil of lies.
Kaeya has never recounted his fatherโs parting words to a soul โ โThis is your chance. You are our only hope.โ โ while gazing past Kaeya towards the fallen land of Khaenriโah. Kaeya understands that he was tasked with reviving their fallen homeland, but the warmth with which he was received in Mondstadt left him stranded at a crossroads.
Whether he abandons the duty entrusted to him by his father and sides with Mondstadt or takes the information heโs gathered back home to pursue this plot, Kaeya will have to betray one side to benefit the other. Kaeya lives with the knowledge that some day, heโll have no choice but to lie and hurt one for the sake of the other. Naturally, heโs quick to dismiss the notion that heโs lonely, unable to place his trust in those around him and risk getting hurt, but the truth is in the way Kaeya no longer lets anyone venture too close to his heart.
Abilities: Kaeya possesses a Vision, a magical item granted by the gods that allows control over a specific element. His Cryo Vision lets him manipulate ice. He can conjure large quantities of ice, freeze small bodies of water and generate a โshieldโ of icicles that circle him and inflict damage on his opponents. Aside from this, he is also a skilled swordsman.
Inventory: The clothes on his back, a single Mora in his pocket, his Vision, and a standard issue short sword with no special properties.
Samples: One and two!
